Neighborhood Closeup – FOUNDERS POINTE in Isle of Wight County

All roads lead to the residents’ clubhouse in Founders Pointe, which further drives home the point that this Carrollton neighborhood focuses on resort-style living.

That’s precisely what Chrissy Erpelding liked best about Founders Pointe when she and her husband, Matt , discovered one of the builders in the community and then the community itself online.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Chrissy Erpelding said communities like Founders Pointe – with resort-style amenities – are commonplace.

“This was one of the only ones in the area here and I fell in love with it,†said Erpelding. The couple – who relocated for Matt’s job – moved from Little Rock, Ark., into their four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bath home in November.

They instantly felt at home and even started a Founders Foodies Club which meets monthly at the clubhouse. “We have 16 people in the club,†she said. “The neighbors here are amazing.â€

In addition, Chrissy Erpelding says she likes the 844-foot observation pier that overlooks Batten Bay and the James River. “We love to walk down and look at the water,†she said.

The pier, along with the residents’ clubhouse with a wraparound covered porch, outside gas grill area, double-sided stone fireplace, two plasma televisions with surround sound music system and kitchen, a 4,000-square- foot lakefront resort-style pool with 112-foot waterslide, baby pool, shade pavilions, bathhouse, sand volleyball court, lakeside playground, leisure trails and three-acre lake are all what make Founders Pointe unique and special. Residents also enjoy fishing, paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking on Batten Bay.

Mark Edwards , senior vice president for East West Partners (Hampton Roads’ Division), which developed the community, said Founders Pointe twice has been selected as “Community of the Year†by the Peninsula Housing and Builders Association.

When completed, the waterfront community will feature a total of 319 single-family homes built by Sasser Construction, ABT Custom Homes, Birdsong Builders, Hohmann Builders, Allen Parker Builder, Newhall Construction, Sadler Building Corp. and Norman Miller.

Homes in Founders Pointe range from $400,000 to more than $800,000.

Not only does the quiet enclave, on 325 acres in Isle of Wight County, have plenty for its residents to do right in their backyard, it also has plenty of natural beauty throughout the neighborhood. Beautifully landscaped streets can be found among the marsh, creek, river, and protected woodland views.

Kristin and Michael Johnston moved back to the area from New York in November 2013 after living in Suffolk before that. They loved the look of their five-bedroom, four-and-a-half bath home not only because of its coastal-style exterior, but also for the comfort and quality of its interior.

Additionally, the feel of the neighborhood was one of the many facets that instantly drew them in.

“It makes you feel like you belong,†said Michael Johnston, who is in the Navy, stationed at Portsmouth Naval Hospital. With numerous functions at the clubhouse for adults and children, monthly baby -sitting opportunities for their four children, and the pet-friendly community welcoming their golden retriever, Luna , Johnston said they are happy to call Founders Pointe home.

“Founders Pointe provides a nurturing environment in which children can thrive and adults can relax,†states the community’s website at www.founderspointe.com . “Whether you are young, or simply young at heart, going outside to play is conveniently rewarding.â€
